First Training Run Since Sierra Leone

Got my first run in since coming back from #SierraLeone after trying to recover from jet lag and a cold. Felt great to be back out there, definitely with a whole new perspective of why I’m running. Spent a lot of time thinking about those I encountered in Sierra Leone as well as those running in the Bay Shore run today. #HWI #HessLakeRun #GRMarathon #Run4Water

Experiencing Enable The Children, Finishing at the Beach

Today was an amazing experience with Enable The Children. It was both heartbreaking and encouraging to see what is happening for special needs children in Sierra Leone. We started off the day having breakfast at th the hotel with a visit from Anna Vines who is the director of the ETC program at World Hope. She gave us some background into the program and helped set expectations for the day. After breakfast we met a few of their staff that were going to be taking us around to visit children. Since it was near a school, and want looked like a community “park” there were a lot of kids around. I think there were a lot of people in general because of watching the well drilling. We’re there for about 3.5 hours before we started to see some water flowing from the well. They eventually got the…

Day Camp in Kathirie, Celebration And Sharing The Love

Today started off a little bit slower. There was a little bit of a communication problem with breakfast but it all worked out with plenty of time before our World Hope transportation arrived. Terry and I actually had a little time to chat with some of the hotel staff after breakfast during and after the butchering of our goat. Yes, Terry and I got to see them butchering “litte Ron” as some of us liked to call him. We explained a little bit about Hope Water International and the partnership with World Hope. Once our rides arrived we loaded up and headed to the office to meet up with some World Hope staff that would be joining us for the day in Katherie. Once things…
