Painting Instead of Programming

Since I’ve taken up the hobby of 3D printing, and as a result have gotten into playing the One Page Rules wargaming system, I also decided to give a go at painting miniatures.

After watching a number of YouTube videos on the subject I started picking up the paint supplies I would need to start out. I got myself a wet pallette, some brushes, and some The Army Painter starter paints. I also picked up a rubber mat to put down on my desk to save wear and tear on the desktop surface.

I took advantage of my 3D printer to make some miniatures painting holders I found on Printables.

The first miniature I attempted to paint was the Shadow Stalkers Hound from One Page Rules.

The second miniature I attempted was a more detailed Shadow Stalkers Scourge Champion also from One Page Rules.

These two miniatures are essentially either failed 3D printed ones(Scourge Champion) or based badly(Hound). So I just used them to test out painting. I have a whole bunch more miniatures that I am playing games with for me too start painting so there will be more to come.

I’m finding these days, after so many years of living and breathing software development, that I need something else to give my brain a rest, or at least that part of my brain. Sitting down and relaxing by doing some painting or prepping some 3D printing stuff had been a huge plus for me.
