Tackling The Saturday Morning Training Run
I was on the fence about going out this morning. I didn’t get a great night of sleep, and I woke up with a sore throat, so I was concerned whether doing 13 miles was a good idea. Once I actually got going things were good for the first 10 miles, it got a a little harder but I just stayed focused getting to the end and worried less about my pace. I enjoyed catching my longtime running partner, and his co-worker, as I passed by be his house on my run. Nice to have some encouragement along the way. I had a tough time after my run with my recovery. Helps to have home projects that needed my attention and to keep me going….
An 8 Mile Tuesday For Clean Water
In a time when many of us are stuck in our homes I’m glad to still be able to get out and run. I could definitely tell things were quieter than normal when I was finishing up my run. I am glad to know that, so far, no cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Sierra Leone. #HWI #Run4Water #WhyIRun
I Might Need To Adjust My Half Marathon Training
So yesterday I happened to PR for a half marathon. The “problem” is that it was only a half marathon training run for a half I’m doing in July. My Endomondo training plan has my goal set for a 9:22min/mi pace come race day. Well I ended up blowing that time out of the water by finishing a training run half marathon with an 8:49min/mi pace. So I think my current goal is too conservative. It probably doesn’t help that I continually keep pushing myself beyond the training plan paces. I have a hard time managing my pace.
Warming Up With The Pace
When you are a runner the colder winter temperatures are either a motivator or a demotivator. You are either going to be motivated to keep going, and keep warm, or you are going to be demotivated to not even step out the door. For me, most days my decision to run has little to so with the outside temperature, or weather. My decision usually depends on how tired I feel and if I want to go back to bed. Once I get out the door, then the outside temperature is my motivation for how fast I’m going to run. This morning the single digit temp helped me kick things up a notch. 9.4 Mile Combo Training Plan Run, With Some Rain On The Side
Today was another combo plan training run, #Endomodo distance and #HWI pace. Does that surprise anyone? Ha. It was nice to have things a bit warmer given the wind and rain. I don’t feel as soaked as yesterday but early in my run I felt like I was headed into a hurricane, especially when you see the rain moving horizontally. After making through the first half of my run I spent the 2nd half praying for the village of #Ronkorhun and the church that is supporting them. I also thought about all those from the #HlWI team that have incurred some sort of injury that is now preventing them from running. Kicking Off A New Training Plan
After still not quite getting much in for running the last two weeks I decided to just start a new training plan. For me, I need the motivation of a plan. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a matter of if I don’t have a plan I won’t run, it does make it harder, but it really comes down to just not wanting to have to figure what I’m going to run every morning. With a training plan there is no question of what am I going to run, I don’t have to think about it, I just get out there and do what the plan says.
